“Devasthanakala” paper cutting is an art form that requires the confidence and
ability to cut out complete compositions from paper without drawing or tracing or copying,
and has traditions reaching back hundreds of years.
Prabal Pramanik is an Ustad or Master of this art form and has worked through various
means to incorporate this traditional art in the sphere modern technology.
He has made complete sets such as on life of Buddha, on Mahabharata, on Gita Govinda and
on “History of Art”. He has also depicted natural scenes through this medium.
Entire murals have been made with this form of art and animation films have been created
with paper cutting work by him.
